What Is a Design Patent?
Design patents protect ornamental designs on items like jewelry, automobiles, furniture, fonts and computer icons. Some famous examples include the original curvy Coca-Cola bottle, which was patented in 1915. A design patent application requires a set of drawings, which must accurately describe the appearance of the product in question.
